Digital Adventures Fall Workshop

Dr. Tom Gallien and Dwain Shaw will present their fall workshop in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, October 27 - 31, hopefully right at the time the leaves are at their peak. They will base camp in Townsend, Tennessee, just outside Cades Cove, in an 8 bedroom farmhouse amidst some of the most scenic vistas you have ever imagined. Attandance is limited, so contact Dwain soon if you're interested in going.

Exhibiting Your Art on the Website

Thanks so much to everyone who sent in images for their online galleries! And for those of you who don't know about this feature, one of the many benefits of joining the Artists Guild is that you can display you art here on the website in an online image gallery. It's like having a mini-website of your own where potential customers can view your portfolio.

To start your gallery, just send jpgs of your art to Christina Rice, along with a short bio, and she will add your page. Please name your images with lowercase letters, underlines, numbers or dashes, for example, my_work23.jpg or beach-sunset.jpg. The software displays the images in alphabetical order, but it won't do capital letters - so if your camera names the image 001.JPG, please change it to 001.jpg. You can have up to 25 pictures in your gallery.

Art After Dark

Art After Dark 2010 will be held Saturday, November 13, 7-10pm at Church of the Holy Comforter. Tickets are $5 per person and will be available online soon. Check back for updates!

Art After Dark, held annually in November, is an evening of art and entertainment and the Guild's signature event. The show features a variety of art created by Guild members including oils, charcoal, watercolors, photography, pottery and jewelry. Most of the art is available for purchase.

In addition, the evening includes a celebrity auction of art created by some of our hometown celebrities, a silent auction of art, delicious food and wine, and performances by local arts groups

Guild Exhibits

Art After Dark - Art After Dark features a variety of paintings, sculpture, photography and pottery exhibited by Guild artists. Entertainment for previous AADs has included music by Hakim Rahsul and Norton Wade, and an auction of paintings done by local celebrities and a silent auction of artists' works. See pictures.

Art in the Barn - Art in the Barn was the Guild's first show and was held Riverwood Plantation Clubhouse, featuring wine tastings, live auctions of art and exhibits of members' artwork in various media. For a look at the Guild's original exhibit, see pics.

Medical College of Georgia - Guild members have exhibited their work at the Medical College of Georgia's Healing Arts Program since 2007. Exhibits include one person shows as well as group exhibits.

Columbia County Government Complex - another regular venue for the Guild is the Government Complex in Evans.

It was standing room only at the Guild's very cool meeting at Judy Maxwell's Twisted Fence Ranch Alpaca. Judy and her husband Michael presented a workshop on wet & dry needle felting and let us meet their six very beautiful and gentle alpacas. (Thanks to Margaret Hunt for the pics!)

Frank Lazenby and his photography were featured in a Metro Spirit article in connection with the Augusta Photography Festival; Frank's photos were shown at MCG as part of the Festival.

Dwain Shaw presented workshops in the Augusta Photography Festival on portfolio reviews, Digital Photography and his Painting with Light technique. His photos were shown at the Metro Spirit's gallery.

Reggie Fraser conducted a field workshop in the Augusta Photography Festival on photographing early morning views along the Canal.

The Morris Museum of Art and Wachovia Corporation have named Angelika Selman-Bondar, visual arts teacher at Stevens Creek Elementary and Euchee Creek Elementary, the 2008 Outstanding Art Teacher in Visual Art. The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the Morris Museum of Art in April and included a cash prize which may be used for professional learning, travel, conference expenses, art supplies, or resources for the classroom. The competition was open to kindergarten through high school teachers in the CSRA . Nominees submitted questionnaires, lesson plans, letters of recommendation, and supporting portfolios. Judging was based on creativity, innovation in teaching methods; development of a philosophy of art teaching reflected in and outside the classroom; involvement in: community arts activities, organizations, workshops or conferences; and involving students in art activities such as exhibitions, field trips, and conferences in and beyond the classroom.
